Chudleigh, TAS 7304
Overview
Chudleigh is a tranquil rural village in the fertile Chudleigh Valley, bounded by the Gog Range and the Great Western Tiers. The main street is lined with roses from a 2001 beautification project, earning the town the “village of roses” name, and the community gathers each February for one of Tasmania’s oldest agricultural shows. Local amenities include a honey shop, a service station, a general store and nearby Trowunna Wildlife Park, with the Mole Creek Karst National Park and Lobster Rivulet Forest Reserve offering waterfalls and limestone caves.
Road access comes via the B12 Mole Creek Road and the C169 Caveside Road, linking the town to Launceston (64 km) and Westbury (37 km). Although the railway closed in 1985, a bus service now connects residents, and the 2016 census recorded 203 people living in a mix of historic cottages, farmsteads and modest village homes amid grazing land.
Region type mix: Regional 100%.
