Franklin is a historic riverside town set on the western bank of the Huon River, about 45 km south‑west of Hobart. The 2021 Census recorded 444 residents, with a median age of 64, giving the township a relaxed, retirement‑focused atmosphere. Its compact layout centres on a reclaimed foreshore that hosts rowing regattas, cricket, riverside walks and informal camping, while the Wooden Boat Centre, local cideries and roadside fruit stalls keep the boat‑building and orchard heritage alive.
