Glenorchy lies on Hobart’s northern fringe, bounded by the River Derwent to the east, Mount Wellington to the west, Hobart City to the south and Brighton to the north. First occupied in 1804 and proclaimed a city in 1964, it has evolved into a largely suburban, working‑class neighbourhood that expanded rapidly after World War II; the 2016 Census recorded 10,828 residents in the suburb.
