Overview

Great Bay is a quiet, rural locality on Bruny Island, part of the Kingborough council in Tasmania’s Hobart region. With a 2016 census population of 57, the community is centred around a natural lifestyle framed by the D’Entrecasteaux Channel to the west and close‑by bays such as Ford Bay, Fancy Bay and Neck Beach. The area’s history reaches back to 1829 when an Aboriginal settlement was established near the bay, a site where Truganini first met Protector George Robinson, adding a cultural depth to the tranquil surroundings.
