Overview

Gretna is a small rural locality in Tasmania’s Central Highlands and Derwent Valley regions, lying about 20 km south‑east of Hamilton. At the 2016 census it had 211 residents. The River Derwent forms much of its south‑western boundary, offering riverside scenery, while the town is home to several heritage sites including St Mary the Virgin Anglican Church (built 1848), Glenelg House (1878) and Clarendon House (1821).
