Overview

Hamilton is a rural locality in Tasmania’s Central Highlands, situated about 73 km north‑west of Hobart. The River Derwent forms its south‑western edge while the Clyde River runs through the centre, offering pleasant waterways alongside an oceanic climate of mild, dry summers and cool, sometimes snowy winters. The town retains a historic charm with a handful of small shops, a courthouse and numerous heritage buildings dating back to convict times, including St Peter’s Church, the Glen Clyde Hotel and a collection of 19th‑century cottages.
