Lilydale, TAS 7268
Overview
Lilydale is a small town in northern Tasmania, 28 km northeast of Launceston and part of the Launceston municipality (with about 4 % in Dorset). At the 2016 census it had a population of 277. The town sits near Mount Arthur and offers natural attractions such as Lilydale Falls and mural‑decorated telegraph poles along the main street, giving residents a relaxed, community‑focused lifestyle.
Local amenities include an Australian rules football team, a bowls team, a seasonal swimming pool and the Lilydale Village Market, which adds regular community activity. Education is provided by the nearby Lilydale District School. Although the North‑eastern Railway line that opened in 1889 once served the town, the station closed in the 1970s, so road access via Pipers River Road now links Lilydale to Launceston and surrounding rural localities like Karoola and Turners Marsh, where farms and bushland offer a variety of housing styles.
