Lutana is an inner‑urban residential suburb of Greater Hobart, situated about 3 km south‑east of Glenorchy and framed by the Brooker Highway and the western shore of the River Derwent. At the 2021 census it had 2,616 residents living in a blend of early‑twentieth‑century worker homes, townhouses and apartments that have developed since the area was gazetted in 1961.

The suburb offers community parks such as Apex Park, the Athol Street Playground and Lutana Woodlands Reserve, and it adjoins the private nine‑hole New Town Bay Golf Club on the Derwent shoreline. Road connectivity comes from National Route 1 (Brooker Highway), while the disused rail corridor is being explored for a “Lutana Link” walking‑and‑cycling route to connect schools, shops and the Intercity Cycleway.
