Arthur Highway slices through Murdunna, a small town perched at the head of King George Sound on the Forestier Peninsula, and provides the main link to Port Arthur and Hobart. The road is lined with a mix of permanent residences and holiday homes owned largely by non‑residents, reflecting the town’s summer population boost and its reputation as a weekend getaway for Hobart’s visitors.

Tourism drives the local economy, with nearby Sommers Bay offering recreational opportunities, while improved roads enable many residents to commute daily to Hobart. The town sits just 6 m above sea level and is framed by the surrounding hills, adding to its scenic streetscape.
