Neika is a rural locality situated about 20 kilometres south‑west of Hobart, within the Hobart and Kingborough local government areas. With a modest population of 198 recorded in the 2016 census, the community enjoys a quiet, country atmosphere framed by Long Creek to the north and the North West Bay River along its south‑west edge. The area’s name, believed to derive from an Aboriginal word for “hill”, reflects its proximity to nearby elevations such as Watchorns Hill and Picket Hill.
