Parattah, TAS 7120
Overview
Parattah is a small Tasmanian township about 6 km southeast of Oatlands, with a population of 147 at the 2021 Census. The community comprises roughly 100 families and a main street lined with attractive historic dwellings, many of which are being restored. Notable heritage includes the original general store, the Tudor‑style Parattah Hotel, several historic churches and a farmhouse once home to Qantas founder Hudson Fysh.
Local amenities centre on the restored railway station, now housing a modest museum and adjoining picnic reserve, while the historic post‑office site and a reinstated public telephone add a nostalgic touch. Although regular passenger rail services have ceased, the former junction, once a key stop on the Hobart‑Launceston line, remains a point of interest, and the nearby Austral and Ceres dams provide easy access to lakeside recreation.
Region type mix: Regional 100%.
