Queenstown is a historic mining town of 1,808 residents (2021 census) nestled in a valley on the western slopes of Mount Owen. The town enjoys a very wet oceanic climate, with cool‑mild summers, snowy winters and more than 2,400 mm of annual rain, creating a lush backdrop for outdoor pursuits such as mountain‑bike trails, white‑water rafting and exploring the striking pink‑grey peaks of Mount Lyell and Mount Owen.
