Shearwater sits on the north coast of Tasmania, on the Rubicon Rivulet just off Bass Strait and 19.6 km east of Devonport, within the Municipality of Latrobe. The 2016 census recorded 1,764 residents, but numbers swell during the holiday season as the town is a popular resort adjacent to Port Sorell and Hawley Beach.
