South Burnie is a small coastal suburb of Burnie, lying just 2.5 km south‑east of the town centre. The 2016 census recorded 331 residents living along the Bass Strait shoreline, where the Bass Highway forms the northern edge and the Emu River marks part of the eastern boundary. Residents enjoy easy access to South Burnie Beach, the nearby Emu River and a collection of heritage sites such as the APPM Administration Buildings, Emu River Road Bridge and Oakleigh Park, all within a kilometre of the suburb.
