Strahan is a compact coastal town on Tasmania’s west coast, with 634 residents recorded in the 2021 census. Originally a timber and mining port, it now relies on tourism, providing gateway access to the Franklin‑Gordon Wild Rivers World Heritage area, Sarah Island penal site and a modest fishing fleet that brave Hell’s Gates.
