Overview

Strahan is a small coastal town on Tasmania’s west coast with 634 residents (2021 census). Once a busy mining port, it today thrives on tourism, offering boat tours to Sarah Island, access to the Franklin‑Gordon Wild Rivers World Heritage Area, and daily performances by the Round Earth Theatre Company. The community enjoys an oceanic climate with cool, damp summers and very rainy winters, and a historic fishing fleet that still operates from Strahan Harbour.
