Turners Beach, TAS 7315
Overview
Turners Beach is a small coastal town on Tasmania’s north shore, set almost exactly halfway between Devonport and Ulverstone. At the west‑most mouth of the Forth River, its fine white sand and rolling waves create a relaxed seaside lifestyle for the 1,966 residents recorded in the 2021 Census. The beach’s extensive low‑tide exposes hard sand that once hosted an annual sprint, while the river mouth and nearby Claytons Rivulet offer fishing and wildlife such as platypus, eels and brown trout.
Local amenities centre on the Esplanade, where a former supermarket now operates as a café providore and a service station with takeaway sits on Forth Road. A monthly Twilight Market showcases regional producers, and a mix of housing includes homes built around historic sites like The Gables and newer residences that replaced one of the former caravan parks. Active community life is supported by football, cricket, bowls and tennis clubs, as well as a scout group meeting in the local hall.
