Upper Burnie is a residential locality within the Burnie council, perched on the hill overlooking the city of Burnie, about 3 km to the south. The suburb is traversed by Route B18 (Mount Street), providing direct north‑west to south‑east access, while Alexander Creek forms part of its eastern boundary. At the 2016 census the suburb recorded 1,821 residents.
Residents enjoy easy access to the Burnie Sports Centre, which offers basketball, badminton, mixed martial arts and a home to the Burnie Rugby Union Club. Although Upper Burnie Primary School closed in 2009, families benefit from nearby primary schools in Acton and Brooklyn and the new school built on the Parklands High School grounds.
