Overview
Waratah is a small North Western Tasmanian town of 249 residents (2021 census) that grew around the Mount Bischoff tin mine. Built atop a waterfall, it was the first Australian settlement to install electric street lights in 1886. The locality sits on the edge of Savage River National Park and is within a few kilometres of Waratah Falls, Queens Park, Saunders Park, Waratah Reservoir and Magnet Dam, offering ample outdoor recreation.
Local amenities include the Waratah Museum and Waratah Primary School, which also served as a polling place in 2007.
