Aireys Inlet, VIC 3231
Overview
Aireys Inlet sits on the Great Ocean Road, southwest of Melbourne between Anglesea and Lorne. Its rocky shelves, secluded coves such as Steppy Beach and the iconic Split Point Lighthouse draw surfers, swimmers and walkers who enjoy the changing surf, strong rip currents and a reef that creates a natural pool at low tide. The 2021 census recorded 979 residents, most born in Australia and speaking English at home.
The village offers a modest range of amenities, including Aireys Inlet Primary School (Prep‑6), the Aireys Inlet Eels junior Australian‑football team and a district tennis club linked to the Geelong Tennis Association. Residents stay informed through the weekly Surf Coast Times and receive Melbourne television and radio via a nearby Anglesea translator. After the 1983 Ash Wednesday bushfires, rebuilding has produced a mixed housing stock, with ocean‑view homes now in high demand and some selling for more than A$1 million.
Region type mix: Metro 50%, Regional 50%.
