Allendale, VIC 3364
Overview
Allendale is a tiny town in the Shire of Hepburn, Victoria, with just 185 residents recorded in the 2021 census. Originally a mining settlement around the Berry Leads, the town once swelled to about 1,500 people and supported ten hotels, a bakery, shops and a railway station. Today the community retains a strong local spirit, highlighted by the historic Allendale Football Club, which has been competing since its 1882 formation and enjoyed several premierships in the 1890s.
Although the North Creswick‑Daylesford railway line was closed in stages, the former Allendale station remains a landmark within 1.7 km of the town, and the Allendale Fire Station sits just 1.1 km away, providing essential services. Housing is limited to modest, primarily residential dwellings, including the former boarding school on Leishman Street that was sold in 2005. Residents enjoy a quiet lifestyle surrounded by the historic landscape of the Hepburn Shire.
