Bannockburn is a town in the Golden Plains Shire, about 88 km southwest of Melbourne and close to Geelong. The 2021 Census recorded 6,470 residents. Although the Geelong‑Ballarat railway still runs through the centre, it now serves only grain and freight trains; the historic Bannockburn Railway Station remains a landmark alongside well‑preserved Victorian colonial buildings such as the former Somerset Hotel.
