At the 2016 census the community numbered 1,081 residents, and the town’s historic centre includes the 1871‑opened post office and the 1874 Briagolong Hotel, which still serves meals and drinks. The local water supply is drawn from Freestone Creek, reflecting the area’s long‑standing link to timber production and natural resources.
