Deans Marsh, VIC 3235
Overview
Nestled 23 km inland from Lorne, Deans Marsh is a small Victorian community of 368 residents (2021 Census). It lies on the Otway Harvest Trail, near the Pennyroyal Raspberry Farm, Gentle Annie Berry Gardens and three boutique wineries – Blakes Estate, Alt Road and Heroes Vineyard. The town centre’s Store provides groceries, local produce, alcohol and a café, while the Deans Marsh Community Cottage offers weekly yoga, Pilates, workshops, a monthly dinner and the annual Deans Marsh Festival.
The historic Forrest railway line reached Deans Marsh in December 1889, linking it to the Warrnambool network until its closure in March 1957. Agricultural heritage is highlighted by Yan Yan Gurt West, a sheep farm famed for its 1880s woolshed and regenerative‑agriculture practices. Together these features give residents a mix of rural charm and community activity.
