Overview

Flowerdale is a village in the Shire of Murrindindi, nestled in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range and the upper catchment of the Goulburn River system. At the 2021 Census the community numbered 790 residents and lies about 95 km (59 mi) north of Melbourne, offering a rural lifestyle within easy reach of the state capital.

The village retains key amenities – a school, a hotel and a community hall that survived the February 2009 Black Saturday bushfires. A post office has operated from the Hazeldene General Store since around 2000, and a new Flowerdale Community House opened circa 2015 on the former Jarara site. Residents enjoy tennis and cricket at the Spring Valley Recreation Reserve, and the housing stock reflects a blend of pre‑fire homes and rebuilt properties following the extensive fire damage.
