Nestled in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, Flowerdale sits 95 km north‑east of Melbourne and offers a tranquil rural lifestyle with a close‑knit community of 790 residents (2021 Census). The village retains essential amenities, including a school, a hotel and a community hall that survived the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires, while the Hazeldene General Store now hosts the local post office. In 2014 Flowerdale merged with the neighbouring locality of Hazeldene, strengthening a unified sense of identity and leading to the opening of a new Flowerdale Community House around 2015.
