Goroke, VIC 3412
Overview
Goroke is a small town in Victoria’s Wimmera region, 370 km north‑west of Melbourne. At the 2016 census it had 299 residents. The community revolves around primary production – wool, lamb, beef, crops, forestry, wine grapes and yabby farms – and enjoys a relaxed rural lifestyle supported by a P‑12 college, a weekly newspaper and the annual country‑music festival held at nearby Lake Charlegrark each February.
Although the railway that linked Goroke to Natimuk operated from 1894 until its closure in 1986, the town remains a hub for local sport and recreation. Facilities include a bowling club, football and tennis teams, a gun club, an 18‑hole sand‑scrape golf course and a heated public swimming pool opened in 1973. Proximity to the Natimuk‑Douglas Wetlands Important Bird Area adds natural appeal for nature lovers.
