Katamatite is a small town in Victoria’s Murray Valley irrigation zone, situated about 46 km north‑east of Shepparton. At the 2021 census it recorded 453 residents. Established in 1877 with township buildings and a post office, the community retains its historic roots while lying close to regional services.
Residents enjoy a strong sporting culture, anchored by the Katamatite Football Club that competes in the Picola & District Football League and has produced several VFL/AFL players. Local amenities include a fire station, police station and Katamatite Primary School, all within walking distance of the town centre, as well as the “Katamatite Eagle” sculpture. Although the historic railway station is now closed, road links connect the town to Shepparton and surrounding districts.
