Koroit, VIC 3282
Overview
Koroit is a small rural town in western Victoria, set amid rolling green pastures on the north rim of the extinct volcano Tower Hill. At the 2021 census the community numbered 2,184 residents. The town’s Irish roots are celebrated each May with the Koroit Irish Festival, while the annual half‑marathon, agricultural show and vibrant local football team give residents a lively social calendar.
Essential services centre on Mill Street with the Koroit and District Memorial Health Services, a limited‑hours library housed in the historic borough chambers, and the three‑hectare Botanic Gardens designed by William Guilfoyle. Although the railway closed in 1977, the town is a short drive to the Princes Highway and is linked to Warrnambool and Port Fairy by a 30 km rail‑trail. Housing ranges from historic buildings along Commercial Road to newer dwellings supporting the area’s large Murray Goulburn dairy plant.
