Overview

Maffra lies 220 km east of Melbourne in the Shire of Wellington, set just off the Princes Highway and within easy reach of Sale, Stratford, Newry, Tinamba, Heyfield and Rosedale. Although regular passenger trains ceased in 1977, the former railway station now forms an industrial precinct, while the nearby road network provides straightforward links to surrounding towns. The town supports families with two primary schools, a public secondary college of around 700 students, a post office, a police station and a fire station, all clustered near the centre of town.
