Maidstone is an inner‑west suburb 8 km north‑west of Melbourne’s CBD, home to 9,389 residents (2021 Census). The area is chiefly residential, featuring period weatherboard, brick Art Deco and Californian Bungalow homes from the 1920s‑1940s, post‑war concrete houses for returned servicemen, and newer estates built on former factory sites since the 1990s. A large private golf club occupies the north‑west corner, while a small industrial zone remains in the centre, and a network of parks, including Shepherd Gardens, Drey Park and the Maribyrnong River Trail, offers green‑space for recreation and active commuting.
