Port Fairy lies at the mouth of the Moyne River on the Southern Ocean, 28 km west of Warrnambool and 290 km from Melbourne, reachable via the Princes Highway. The former railway, closed in 1977, now serves as the Port Fairy to Warrnambool Rail Trail.
