Overview

Port Fairy sits on the Princes Highway where the Moyne River meets the Southern Ocean, 28 km west of Warrnambool and 290 km from Melbourne. At the 2016 Census the town had 3,340 residents and supports tourism, a large fishing fleet and a Sun Pharma factory on its edge. Two primary schools serve families, and the former railway line, closed in 1977, now forms the Port Fairy‑to‑Warrnambool rail trail.
