Pyalong, VIC 3521
Overview
Pyalong sits on the Northern Highway in central Victoria, about 90 kilometres north of Melbourne, and is home to 772 people according to the 2021 census. The town grew from early European runs established in 1838 and was officially surveyed in 1854, later becoming the seat of the Shire of Pyalong until 1994. Its location within the Shire of Mitchell places it amid the traditional lands of the Taungurung people of the Kulin nation.
Residents enjoy a relaxed rural lifestyle supported by local amenities such as Pyalong Primary School and the Pyalong Police Station, both within walking distance. The Pyalong Golf Club on the Northern Highway offers a community sporting venue, while daily V/Line coach services link the town to Kilmore, Wallan and Melbourne, preserving convenient transport despite the closure of the Heathcote railway line in 1968.
