Overview

Research is a semi‑rural suburb 24 km north‑east of Melbourne’s CBD, lying in the Shire of Nillumbik and home to 2,695 residents according to the 2021 census. The area is characterised by large 1‑ to 35‑acre blocks set among towering eucalypts and melaleuca paperbarks, creating a high‑risk bushfire zone that supports diverse native flora and fauna. Its historic roots trace back to the 1850s orchards and the gold‑rush‑era name change from Swiper’s Gully to Research.
