Overview

Silverleaves is a small town on Phillip Island, situated east of Cowes. At the 2016 census it recorded 211 residents. Developed from scrubby sand dunes into a peaceful seaside holiday retreat, the hamlet earned a reputation in the 1950s‑60s as a tranquil hideaway off the beaten track, its name reflecting the silvery‑grey banksia leaves that fringe the dunes.

The Silverleaves Estate created about 250 holiday lots between 1955 and 1962, attracting families who built simple fibro cottages and beach shacks among the banksias and tea‑trees. Today the modest housing mix retains that relaxed character and sits close to Conservation Hill, Rhyll Inlet Wildlife Preserve and Observation Point, with Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School only 2.3 km away and proximity to Cowes.
