South Dudley is a small town in the Bass Coast Shire of Victoria, born in the early 1910s to house employees of the nearby State Coal Mine. Following a land auction at Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre in April 1910, the settlement grew quickly, but the mine’s closure in 1968 left it with a modest, close‑knit community that retains many of its original workers’ homes alongside later residential additions.
