Terang is a small historic town in the Shire of Corangamite, perched on the Princes Highway 212 km south‑west of Melbourne. At the 2021 census it had 2,254 residents and benefits from V/Line passenger services on the Warrnambool line at its local railway station. The town centre is dotted with heritage assets such as the clock‑tower post office, war memorial, rose gardens with a band rotunda and a Heritage Trail that showcases 19th‑century trees and historic buildings. Nearby recreation includes the former Lake Terang area, now a golf course and open‑space park, and the maar lake of Lake Keilambete to the north.
