Overview
Travancore is an inner‑city suburb 5 km north‑west of Melbourne’s Central Business District in the City of Moonee Valley. It had a population of 2,116 at the 2021 census and sits between the Tullamarine Freeway and Mount Alexander Road, south of Ormond Road. The suburb’s streets echo its Indian‑linked past – Baroda, Lucknow and Bengal – while many homes retain an Old English character, and new residential towers now crown the former Lombard Paper Factory site on the southern edge.
Residents enjoy excellent public transport, with several tram stops on Mount Alexander Road and the Essendon tram depot nearby, providing links to the CBD. A range of schools is within walking distance, including Mount Alexander College, Debney Park Secondary College and Debney Meadows Primary, and green space is supplied by Debney Park and Farnham Street Park. The Royal Children’s Hospital Mental Health Service campus and Flemington Police Station add community facilities to the neighbourhood.
