Overview

Balcatta is a large, middle‑class suburb in Perth’s north, nestled within the City of Stirling. Historically home to Italian, Greek and other Southern‑European families, the area now welcomes a growing Asian community, giving the housing stock a mix of traditional post‑1970s homes, newer builds further north and smaller units or villas on subdivided blocks. While much of Balcatta is dedicated to commercial and industrial uses, family life centres on Balcatta Senior High School, opened in 1967 with specialist arts programs, and nearby primary schools, while the Macedonian Cultural Centre “Ilinden” reflects the suburb’s strong migrant heritage.
