Malaga lies 11 km north of Perth’s CBD in the City of Swan. Named in 1969 after either the Spanish city or an Aboriginal term for “ironstone,” it saw early real‑estate growth before World I. Today the suburb is an industrial hub with about 2,400 businesses and a workforce exceeding 12,000.
Transport centres on the Transperth bus depot, opened in 1986 and upgraded in 2025 to run a large fleet of electric buses. Bus routes 351, 360, 361, 362, 363, 449 and 450 link Malaga to Ballajura, Alexander Heights, Mirrabooka and the city via Alexander Drive and Reid Highway.
