Walkaway is a small town in the City of Greater Geraldton, Western Australia, with a population of 270 recorded in the 2016 census. Its name derives from “Wagga wah,” describing the bend in the nearby Greenough River, and the settlement grew after the railway station was established when a line from Geraldton opened in 1887. By 1894 the town was linked to the Eastern Railway at Midland Junction via a private land‑grant railway built by the Midland Railway Company, providing residents with historic rail connections that shaped early transport options.
