Walkaway, WA 6528

Overview

Walkaway is a modest township in the City of Greater Geraldton, Western Australia, with 270 residents recorded in the 2016 census. Its name derives from “Wagga wah,” a reference to the bend in the nearby Greenough River, and the settlement grew around the railway station established when the line from Geraldton opened in 1887. By 1894 the town was linked to the Eastern Railway at Midland Junction, giving residents historic rail access that once supported the local agricultural boom.
