Waroona sits in the Peel region along the South Western Highway, about 113 km south of Perth and between Pinjarra and Harvey. At the 2016 census the town recorded 2,934 residents and serves as the seat of the Shire of Waroona. The community is served by the South Western Railway, with the Australind passenger train stopping at Waroona Railway Station, and by the highway that links Perth to Bunbury. Housing ranges from heritage railway cottages, Western Australia’s only surviving timber‑and‑iron platelayer homes, to more recent dwellings that accommodate families and commuters.
