Wellard, a suburb of Perth in the City of Kwinana, traces its name back to 1923 when the area was known as 13‑Mile Camp and later honoured early settler John Wellard. The 2021 census recorded 14,127 residents, many of whom live in The Village at Wellard – a 320‑hectare transit‑oriented development that will house 1,700 households ranging from large freehold lots to medium‑density apartments. At its centre, Wellard Station anchors a burgeoning Village Centre with the upcoming Wellard Square precinct, where Woolworths and other retailers will line a new “main street” that opens onto a piazza‑style meeting area and the John Wellard Community Centre, home to events such as the annual neighbourhood soup gathering.
