St George is the administrative heart of the Shire of Balonne in south‑west Queensland, lying 513 km west of Brisbane on the Balonne River. At the 2021 census the locality recorded 3,130 residents. The town’s riverside setting provides excellent yellowbelly and Murray cod fishing, and the annual St George show during the Labour Day long weekend adds a lively community focus.
