The property is near several natural spots, including Simpson Falls (approximately 1.5 km away) and Enoggera Reservoir (about 1.5 km), which offers fishing, kayaking and bushwalking. The main entrance to Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre, part of D'Aguilar National Park, is also within the neighbourhood.

The Gap was severely impacted by a microburst during the 16 November 2008 Queensland storms, which caused extensive tree fall and roof damage across the suburb. The area's history also includes early timber felling, farming, and the development of community facilities such as the Primitive Methodist Church opened in 1873.
