The Gap is a north‑western Brisbane suburb, ten kilometres by road from the city centre. At the 2021 census it recorded 17,318 residents living in a valley between Mount Coot‑tha and Enoggera Hill. The area boasts more than 45 green parks, a variety of sporting clubs, the Ashgrove Golf Club, and easy access to Enoggera Reservoir and the Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre within the D’Aguilar National Park, offering fishing, kayaking and mountain‑bike trails.

Local life centres around The Gap Village shopping strip, a police station, nearby fire‑ and ambulance‑services, and a fortnightly mobile library. A range of schools, from The Gap State School to The Gap State High School, and several churches serve families.
