Overview
Booleroo Centre lies 282 km north of Adelaide in the southern Flinders Ranges and acts as the service hub for the surrounding grain‑farming area. The town features essential shops, a historic 1883 hotel and three churches, Uniting, Catholic (St Agnes’) and Lutheran, creating a close‑knit community. The District Hospital serves a catchment of about 3,000 people, and the District School enrolled 225 students from kindergarten to Year 12.
Rail service reached Booleroo Centre in 1910 with the Wilmington line and ended passenger operations in 1969 before full closure in 1982. Cultural life centres on the Booleroo Steam & Traction Preservation Society Museum, which holds one of Australia’s largest tractor and steam‑engine collections, and its annual March rally on the oval. Grain receival facilities and fertiliser depots round out the local economy.
