Overview
Geilston Bay is a quiet, largely residential suburb on Hobart’s Eastern Shore, nestled between Risdon Vale, Shag Bay and Lindisfarne. Road links to the city run along the East Derwent Highway, providing the same easy access as neighbouring northern suburbs. The western fringe backs onto Natone Hill and a series of bushland reserves, including Thoona, Lindhill and the larger Pilchers Hill, offering walking tracks and scenic views of the bay and, on many properties, distant sights of kunanyi / Mount Wellington.
Local amenities cluster around the suburb’s centre: a corner takeaway, general store, butcher, florist and pizza restaurant, with a Woolworths supermarket just across the border in Lindisfarne. Families benefit from Lindisparne North Primary School (which occupies the former Geilston Bay High site) and a private Christian school, while the Geilston Bay Boat Club, tennis courts, skate park, sporting ovals and clubs such as OHA Football and Montagu Bay Cricket provide plenty of recreation. The housing stock is predominantly detached homes, ranging from modest family houses to larger properties that enjoy waterfront or hill‑top vistas.
